Lanterns of Light for Sanford Strong

Lanterns of Light for Sanford Strong

The Lanterns of Light is a project being organized by the Jobs for Maine Graduates kids from Sanford Middle School, with help from community members and local businesses.

The Lanterns of Light will be a display of lanterns created by the students and community members of Sanford. This will be a safe and positive way for students to show the community that nothing will “dim their light” and that they are Sanford Strong!

The lanterns will be on display the nights of October 30 and 31 in the area of the Gowen rotary and Number One Pond. You’ll be able to drive through the display.

If you’d like to contribute a lantern to add to the display, on Thursday, you can register for a 30 minute time slot on October 22 from 4-7pm, to make one at any of the three locations below. Materials will be provided and even some treats (Frannie’s will have some free donuts for participants along with coffee and cider)!

There are limited spots for each location so sign up soon, and only if you’re committed to being there. Social distancing and masks required, of course. Note that participants at Frannie’s will be working outside due to their small inside space so dress warmly!

You can also make your lanterns at home. For directions on how to make one from a two-liter soda bottle, click here: youtube.com/watch?v=LKk2kSByBWM. You can drop your lantern off at Frannie’s anytime during the weekend of 10/23 while they are open or at Sanford Middle School in the bins that will be outside SMS from October 23 – 27. No need to add a candle, the students will be stringing them with LED lights.
