Maine CDC updated its map of Covid-19 case counts by zip code on Thursday, September 10. As of September 6, there are a cumulative total of 57 cases of the virus in Sanford, and 15 in Springvale, for a total of 72 in our community. This is an increase of 13 cases since the previous update. It is not known how many of these cases are active and how many are recovered, as that information is not broken down by zip code. There are currently 156 active cases in York County, as of September 10. It should be noted that all these figures represent cases that have either been diagnosed, or are considered probable. As many people with the virus do not show symptoms, or very mild symptoms, the actual number could be much higher.
Sammy’s Scoops on Main Street across from City Hall is closing earlier than anticipated for the season. In a Facebook post, the owners cited the spread of Covid-19 in the city as the reason for the closure. They plan to reopen in early spring of next year, with grand opening festivities.
Mill Towne Tavern at the Mid-Town Mall has also delayed their reopening due to the spike in cases of Coronavirus. An update will be posted on their Facebook page when a new date has been determined.
A Sanford elementary school teacher has tested positive for the virus, according to Superintendent of Schools Matt Nelson. He told Foster’s Daily Democrat that due to the delayed opening of school, the teacher did not have any contact with students, and minimal contact with other employees.
