Superintendent of Schools Matt Nelson announced Wednesday that the converted Sanford Middle School will not be ready to open on September 14 as planned. Instead, students in grades 5-8 will start the school year in full distance learning mode for two weeks, with in-person education now scheduled to begin September 28.
Superintendent Nelson wrote that the reason for the change is the renovations to the school building are not completely finished. Faculty and staff began moving in last week, but have not been able to access the entire facility to get everything ready. The additional time should enable the school to be completely ready to meet the expectations of the Covid-19 reopening plan.
This change affects only students in grades 5-8. Students will be able to pick up technology next week to be able to begin full distance learning on Monday, September 14th. Additional information and details will be forthcoming from Sanford Middle School by the end of this week.
