Hundreds of people gathered at Central Park Thursday night to hold candles and share memories of Chace Fromwiller, the 13-year-old who inspired a community-wide effort to support him in his battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer before his death on Sept. 11.
The mood was somber as speakers gave heartfelt tributes to Chace and thanks for the outpouring of caring contributions since he was diagnosed in early 2022. Chace exhibited a positive outlook through all the interventions aimed at slowing the spread of Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma. He received medications, treatments, medical procedures, chemotherapy and 102 rounds of radiation.
Thursday’s vigil also featured prayers and a rousing cheer by Sanford Middle School athletes.
See this week’s Passages column for more about Chace.
