Seniors on the Sanford High School cross country team were recognized before the start of their home meet on Monday, Sept. 11.
The Spartans hosted Gorham, Kennebunk, and Deering. The boys’ team finished with 53 points to take second behind Gorham (49). Freshman Isaac Pelletier was the top finisher for Sanford, covering the 5-kilometer course in 18 minutes and 20.29 seconds.
The girls finished third as a team in their race with 66 points. Senior Caitlyn Hanselmann ran to a ninth-place finish in 24:23.49.
The Volleyball team is off to a strong 2-1 start this year. Junior Samone Gallagher led the Spartans in kills in their season-opening win over Windham on August 31.
After winning their season-opener, the SHS boys’ soccer team lost to Biddeford, 3-1, and Kennebunk, 3-1, last week. Gavin Hebler scored the lone goal in Sanford’s game against Kennebunk.
The girls’ soccer team picked up their second win of the season on Saturday, Sept. 9, with a 2-1 triumph over Noble.
The golf team is now 1-3 after an 11-2 loss to Biddeford on Thursday, Sept. 7, at Dutch Elm Golf Course in Arundel. However, Zachary Parison was victorious in his head-to-head match play.
The Football team battled to a 7-7 tie against Dover in New Hampshire on Friday, September 8.
