Microenterprise Loans Available

Southern Maine Regional Planning and Development Commission is encouraging small businesses to apply for up to $10,000 to expand inventory, renovate space and other business expansion investments.

Through its microenterprise loan program, SMPDC makes forgivable loans available to low-to-moderate income business owners with five or fewer employees. For example, business owners in a family of five are eligible if they earn no more than $86,300.

One business owner who touts the program is Jodie Curtis, owner of Yarrow, a wellness boutique and gift shop in Kittery, who used the loan to renovate the interior of her shop and buy a laptop. “I am so appreciative of this financial boost,” she said.
