Sanford and Springvale voters will head to the polls in November to elect members of the City Council and School Committee, as well as Trustees of the Water and Sewerage Districts. The filing period for candidates closed Thursday, September 7.
In the race for City Council, there are two three-year seats up for election. Incumbents Maura Herlihy and Jonathan Martell will be joined on the ballot by Planning Board member Oliver Jones III.
The City Council also has a one-year seat available to finish the unexpired term that resulted when Becky Brink resigned from her Council seat to become Mayor. Nathaniel Hitchcock is currently filling that seat, and will run for reelection. He will face Springvale resident David Gomes and former City Councilor Victor DiGregorio.
The School Committee has two three-year seats up for election. Incumbents Amy Turgeon Sevigny and Paula Cote are running unopposed.
Incumbent Roland Cote will run unopposed for a three-year term as Sanford Water District Trustee.
The Sanford Sewerage District has two 3-year terms on the ballot. Incumbents Nathaniel Hitchcock and Keith Patterson are unopposed.
Election Day is Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. You may request an absentee ballot here: https://apps.web.maine.gov/cgi-bin/online/AbsenteeBallot/index.pl, or by calling the City Clerk’s office at 207-324-9125. The last day to request an absentee ballot is Thursday, November 2. Absentee ballots will be mailed out within the next few weeks. In-person absentee voting will be held at City Hall beginning in October.
