Sanford Native Rachel Schneider-Smith Wins Age Division at Beach to Beacon
Rachel Schneider-Smith, a Sanford native, won her age division at the 25th annual Beach to Beacon 10-kilometer road race in Cape Elizabeth on Saturday, August 5th.
Schneider-Smith, who now runs professionally in Flagstaff, Arizona, won the 30-34 age group in a time of 34 minutes and nine seconds.
She finished 12th in the women’s race and 77th overall. More than 6,500 runners competed in the road race.
Sanford Mainers Season Closes in Semifinals of New England League Postseason
The Sanford Mainers’ quest for a championship came up just short as they lost to the Bristol Blues, 4-2, in the New England League Postseason semifinals on Friday, August 4th.
Sanford would have advanced to the championship series with a win.
The Mainers led 2-0 in the fifth behind two home runs from Jack Toomey, but the Blues responded with runs in the fifth and sixth before taking the lead for good in the seventh on an RBI single from Cal Parrillo.
Jack Mullen pitched six strong innings for Sanford, allowing two runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two.
