A lot of fun and laughter can be found at the Nasson Little Theatre’s production of “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown.” This spectacular musical play is full of fun treats and startling surprises with the gang we all grew up with. This show had it all. The main cast of six played their characters with brilliance. Hunter Roberts as Charlie Brown was superb, and quickly had the audience rooting for him with his extreme likability. Lucy, played by the Aidy Bryant-like Cat Mathews was everything the cranky, forceful character should be with her outstanding vocal command.
The audience paid special attention whenever Josie-lynn Perkins as Sally came on stage knowing they’d be rewarded with a clever physical performance. And yet another cast stand out, Emma Stevens who reminded me of Melissa McCarthy, brought the lovable Snoopy to life with hilarious facial expressions. This, along with cast mate Evie Neel, who energetically plays a flying Woodstock! Jerrod Comer as Schroeder held a strong stage presence, and Ash Muise played a bright-eyed Linus with a lilting singing voice. Along with the hard-working supporting cast, let’s just say this play keeps giving the audience one amazingly talented performance after another.
The full cast of 12 brought the songs, dancing and action to life and filled the stage in so many fun ways with Broadway-style direction under Artistic Director George Perkins. True delights of the night were the outrageously inventive staging by David Parent, the Technical Director, and the stunning choreography by Choreographer Emma Stevens. Every bit of the stage, and beyond was creatively used. The bold, colorful props as well as the computerized backdrop added to the aesthetics with Production Design by Jeff Hartley.
The audience enjoyed the shared memories of Snoopy’s doghouse, Schroeder’s piano, and the uncooperative kite with loud laughter. Costume and Make-up Director Nikki Muise created cute characters for the stage. Let’s just say you will continue to be thrilled with all the surprises this production offers. The highly talented six-piece orchestra led by Music Director Karen Mathews played the score expertly, and wonderfully supported the performance. The light, sound and stage crews were flawless and well-trained under Stage Manager Bri Ryan. The venue under Executive Director Emily Sheffield was bright, clean and filled with beautiful artwork.
“You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” is an awe-inspiring good time! Shows run July 28, & 29 at 7:30 PM and a July 30 Matinee at 2:30 PM.
