School News Notes: November 13, 2022

Sanford High School students are getting in the Thanksgiving spirit with their annual Peer Helpers food drive. Each class has been assigned a food item to collect (instant mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and gravy, canned vegetables or stuffing), and the class that collects the most items will win a movie in the Performing Arts Center. Turkeys have been donated by the Sanford-Springvale Chamber of Commerce and Marc Motors is helping out with a monetary donation.

A huge congratulations to SHS senior TJ Curley, who signed his letter of intent to play NCAA Division I Baseball at Mount St. Mary’s University this week!

St. Thomas School recently awarded its first Soaring Eagle Awards, given to students who are caught spreading kindness and performing good deeds around the school and among each other. DJ (grade 7) was honored for being a positive role model to our younger students – always lending a hand before and after school. Margaret (grade 6) was recognized for the effort she puts into carline every day – helping our pre-k students get to and from their vehicles safely. Thomas (kindergarten) received this award for being a good, responsible school citizen on the playground.

As part of the Sanford Fire Department’s fire prevention activities in the Sanford Elementary Schools, students in 1st to 3rd grades were asked to make escape plans for their homes. When they were completed they were entered into a drawing for a Fire Truck ride to school. The winner on November 10 was 3rd grader Kyler Schaffner. Kyler and his brother were picked up by B shift and brought to Margaret Chase Smith School.
