School News: November 10, 2022

On October 21, Sanford High School senior Samantha Phillips presented her AP Research Project at the Northeast Regional Chapter of the Society of Toxicology in Boston. The Sanford High School varsity football team beat the Lewison Bulldogs by a score of 42 to 35 in the quarterfinals of the Class A South tournament in Lewiston on November 4.  The Spartans scored twice in the final 20 seconds of the game, including an interception returned for a touchdown by LJ McFarland to clinch the win. The #6 seeded Sanford team now advances to play #2 Thornton Academy in the semifinals on Friday, November 11 in Saco. The start time of the game has been changed to 5:00 pm. If you can’t make it to cheer on the team in person, it will be live streamed at https://www.facebook.com/ThorntonAcademy/.

Last month, students from the Sanford Regional Technical Center’s Early Childhood Education program took a field trip to attend the Fall Teacher Education Open House at the University of Maine in Farmington. It was a full-day program which included hands-on learning sessions with UMF education classes, as well as tours, information and lunch. It was the first visit to a residential college campus for many of the students. The trip was sponsored by the MELMAC Education Foundation.

On Wednesday, October 25, 16 students from Sanford Middle School went to Westbrook to audition for District 1 Honors Band and Chorus Festival. Students spent months preparing their audition music to perform for the judges. Allie Herring, Hazel Marcinkowski, Alessandra Castro, Eliza Allen, Olivia Farrington and Kyla Robinson have been accepted to take part. The Honors Festival will be hosted here in Sanford at the Performing Arts Center on March 4.

SRTC has been selected as the November beneficiary of Hannaford’s Bloomin’ 4 Good program. Each time a Bloomin’ 4 Good bouquet with the red circle sticker is purchased at the Sanford Hannaford store, SRTC will receive a $1 donation.
