School News Notes: October 23, 2022

Playoffs: The 5^th seeded Spartans Volleyball team took down the 4^th seeded Stags of Cheverus High School on Saturday by a score of 3 sets to 1 to advance to the semifinal round of the playoffs. The Girls Varsity Soccer team fell to Portland by a score of 1-0 to bring their season to a close.

At the Maine Band Director’s Association Marching Band Show in Wells on Saturday, the Spartans Marching Band scored 5 stars (the highest rating), in the categories of Drum Major, Percussion, and General Effect, and 4 stars in all other categories. Outstanding performance!

Recently, the 8th grade band students had the opportunity to play in the stands with the high school band for the varsity football game! Band members are pictured above with band director Erica Scarano and music teacher, Katie Spagnolo, who also played their instruments with the band during the game! Band students: Eliza Allen, Morgan Bailey, Abbiella Baker, Alessandra Castro, Callia Curtis, Laila Della Croce, Gary Demers, Alyss Drury, Olivia Farrington, Jack Gagnon, Keaghan Gagnon, Julian Garcie-Mosko, Olivia Giles, Dakota Hoffman, Maxine Hylton, Hazel Marcinkowski, Natalie Nelson-Craft, Owen Treadwell, and Emmalyn Trivilino.

The members of the Sanford Middle School Actors’ Guild have spent their fall season preparing a revue of songs called “Pure Imagination,” featuring music from Beauty and the Beast, Junie B. Jones the Musical, Frozen, and of course Willy Wonka. Choreographed by Sanford High School Senior Trystin Bodwell and directed by Adam L. Bellefeuille, this show will be presented at Sanford Middle School on Friday, November 4th at 6:00 pm and on Saturday November 5th as a matinee show at 1:00 pm. Tickets are $3 for students and seniors and $5 for adults and are on sale now at SMS or by contacting abellefeuille@sanford.org.

New Flags: Earlier this summer, MCS/Pride PTA member Ed Cormier noticed the old flag at Sanford Pride Elementary School was ready to be replaced, so he reached out to Mayor Anne-Marie Mastraccio to see if she could help with the project. They came up with the idea to fly US and State flags over the State Capitol in memory of John Tuttle, Jr. Mr. Tuttle served Sanford for over thirty years in both local and state level elected positions. In a ceremony last week, Mayor Mastraccio presented the flags to the school, the 4th grade chorus sang the National Anthem, and the flags were raised by Mr. Cormier and School Custodian Jason Dudley. The flags were donated by Maine House Majority Leader Michelle Dunphy of Old Town.
