Sanford residents and Maine National Guard members Sgt. Brett Baker and Pfc. Adam Mcleod were part of a team that was awarded Best Squad at the state’s 240th Regional Training Institute, held September 9-11. Competition events included a stress shoot, modified Army Combat Fitness Test, day and night land navigation, vehicle maintenance, casualty evacuation, various squad tactics obstacles, and a water crossing. The Sanford-Springvale YMCA will be closed Saturday and Sunday, September 17 and 18, while the upper parking lot is being paved. It will reopen Monday, September 19.

The Sanford Backpack Program’s Boxes of Joy campaign will kick off in mid-October. This program supplies boxes of holiday goodies and necessary items to local families in need. If you would like to sponsor a box, or learn more about the program, contact spb@strongersanford.org.
Sanford resident Trevan Nordmann was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Portland this week for possessing and transporting child sexual abuse materials. He was sentenced to six years in prison and five years of supervised release. He pleaded guilty to the charges earlier this year. At least one of the videos found to be in his possession showed a child under the age of 12. The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) investigated the case.
