Our Oceans of Possibilities Summer Reading Program was a huge success! We had almost 200 people of all ages participate and together read a total of over 6,000 books, along with enjoying a variety of fun and educational ocean-themed summer programs. We want to give a special shout-out to our top 3 readers in the kids’ challenge: Lance Pollard, Eiley Palmer, and Gabe Saucier, as well as to our winners of the adult challenge raffle: Kara Held, who won gift cards to Frannie’s Mini Donuts and the Welcome Home Diner; and Jessica Amato, who won a lobster dinner for two with all the fixings. Congrats and great job to all!

Our beloved Assistant Director, Jean Collins, is retiring September 1st after 21 years of service here at Goodall Library. She will be deeply missed, and we wish her the utmost joy in her new chapter. Our Youth Services Librarian, Nicole Clark, has been promoted to take her place, and will now act as the Assistant Director/Teen Services Librarian. This means that we have a vacancy for the position of Children’s Librarian and are currently accepting applications for someone to join our exceptional team! Reminders

9/1 – 9/3: Back to School Craft Kits. Suggested for ages 4 and up. Kits will be available while supplies last in the library’s front lobby.

9/5: Closed for Labor Day

9/14 @ 5:30pm – 6:30pm: Puzzle Exchange. Bring your new or used (in good condition) puzzles to swap out with others at the library.

There will be no story times during the month of September as families get back into the rhythm of the school year and while our librarians plan some fun fall programming. Baby/Toddler Rhyme Time and Pre-K Story Time will return 10/6.

Lego Club continues every Wednesday from 2:30pm – 4:30pm, all year round. Suggested for ages 5-12. Drop in to build a Lego creation and put it on display.

We will be having a large Book Sale on October 8th from 10am – 2pm. We are accepting donations of new and gently used books until October 2nd. Drop off at the front desk and mark your calendars!
Museum Passes are available to a variety of great local parks and museums. All you need is a library card in good standing. Contact the library for more info or to select a date to pick up a pass.

Aside from our great selection of books, DVDs, and audiobooks, we also offer WiFi Hotspots, Birding Backpacks, puzzles, and a ukulele for checkout. Put them on hold at maine.minerva.edu or stop by the front desk.

New Books

Adult Fiction: The Big Dark Sky by Dean Koontz. A group of strangers bound by terrifying synchronicity becomes humankind’s hope of survival in an exhilarating, twist-filled novel by Dean Koontz, the #1 New York Times bestselling master of suspense. Fans of Stranger Things will be delighted by this narrative.

Adult Nonfiction: Finding Me: A Memoir by Viola Davis. An Oprah’s Book Club pick, this new memoir tells Viola’s uplifting story from the days of being a young girl refusing to face her fears to the talented and confident actress she is today.

Young Adult: Komi Can’t Communicate Vol 1 – 3 by Tomohito Oda. One of the many new manga series we’ve added to our YA collection, these novels tell the story of Komi, a teenage girl with extreme social anxiety, and Tadano, the awkward boy who is determined to help her overcome her fears and make new friends.

Children’s: Spot the Difference: Wolf or Coyote? by Jamie Rice. Beginning readers will learn to spot the differences in how these hunting mammals look and behave. Each page then asks readers to name which animal is shown in the photo, with the answers given upside down at the bottom of the page. A See and Compare spread shows and labels each animal side by side, while a Quick Facts feature lists even more information about their similarities and differences.

DVD: The Harry Potter 20th Anniversary Special: Return to Hogwarts. This fascinating HBO special is finally available on DVD for everyone to enjoy. Join the cast and crew of Harry Potter twenty years later in a series of interviews that are sure to fascinate fans of all ages (and tug on the heart strings, too). There is also never-before-seen behind the scenes footage on the making of each film.
