We now offer two birding backpacks for checkout with your library card, courtesy of the Audubon Society of York County. Each backpack comes with binoculars, a microfiber lens cleaning cloth, a 3-ring binder with documentation forms, trail maps, writing utensils, a small notebook, and various Maine bird pocket guide books. Ask the front desk FMI.
In youth services, we recently hosted a program from the Animal Welfare Society of Kennebunk, ME: “A Journey Through AWS From Arrival Through Adoption.” Volunteer Brie Roche presented with special guest Norman the guinea pig, and kids of all ages got to learn some great info about small pet species, the adoption process, and how to volunteer further to help animals in our area. It was a great turnout and a great presentation – thank you to AWS for collaborating with us!
Our free museum passes are in full swing for the summer season. Library patrons can get free passes to local museums and parks such as the Strawbery Banke Museum in Portsmouth, NH, the Maine Maritime Museum, the Portland Museum of Art, Maine State Parks, the Wells Reserve, and more. Call or stop by to inquire about specific institutions and availability.
We currently have specially tagged Clynk bags at the library. Take as many as you like, fill them up and bring them to your local Clynk recycling center as usual, and the library will get the change. Thank you for your support!
A reminder that the library will be closed on Saturday May 28th and Monday May 30th for Memorial Day weekend.
Upcoming Programs
Fri June 3rd: Donut Day at the Library. June 3rd is National Donut Day! The first 100 patrons to check something out at the library that day will get a free Frannie’s mini donut, so be sure to stop by. Frannie’s MIni Donuts also generously donated a tray of “decorate your own” donuts for kids visiting our Children’s Room, where we will have some donut themed word searches and coloring pages available as well, along with some fun breakfast books to check out. We can’t wait!
June 21st: Summer Reading Begins. Stay tuned for more info – Goodall Library’s Summer Reading Program “Oceans of Possibilities” will begin on Tuesday June 21st and run until August 13th. There are challenges available for kids, teens, and adults, with easy logging available on the free Beanstack app. Young patrons can earn fun prizes as they go, and adult patrons can use their reading to enter a raffle for either a lobster dinner basket or some local dining gift cards. Pre-register as early as June 1st – information packets and welcome kits will be available at the library then.
New Books

Children: Light the sky, Firefly! by Sheri Mabry Bestor. This beautifully illustrated new picture book will be sure to delight any child or child at heart who is fascinated by the little lights of fireflies. It offers a simple story about a firefly’s life cycle that can be read aloud, with some extra facts added at the bottom of each page for inquisitive minds who want to know more.
