Have you listened to Chamber Talk recently? If not, you missed some interesting interviews! On January 8, Chamber Chair Becca Lapierre of Town Square Realty talked to Rick Stanley about real estate and Chamber programs. On January 22, Tony Paradiso of E3 Community Solar was Rick’s guest. And on January 29, Rick spoke with Tom Reinauer, Transportation Director of York County Community Action. You can listen to all these programs and more here.
Sanford High School senior Josh Werner took second place at the American’s Legion’s State Oratorical Contest on February 12. Read the full story about Josh and his angle on the U.S. Constitution, which is the subject of the contest, here in the Spartan Times.
Sanford High School teacher and field hockey coach Diana Walker will be inducted into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame on October 30th. Coach Walker amassed nearly 400 victories while winning four regional titles and two state championships. From 1999 to 2001, her teams won 50 straight games.
Meet Kevin McKeon! Kevin uses the trail system in Sanford mostly to walk, snowshoe, jog and do Nature studies. Some of Kevin’s favorite trails are the Mousam Way North, the McKeon Reserve for its diversity, and Deering Pond at Halls Reserve for its uniqueness. Outside of Sanford, Kevin visits various other local trust reserves to utilize their different opportunities. Also, in his opinion, short drives south to the beach areas and north to the foothills make for really nice day trips.
Kevin has been on the Trails Committee for 5 years. He joined after his retirement because it offered enjoyment, physical activity and a sense of community service. Having already served as Vice President, Kevin’s duties have included as he describes ‘Deep involvement in all the TC work parties require—and “Parties” are a good description; much fun, camaraderie, and fulfillment is received!’ In the future, Kevin would like to see trail additions such as benches at special spots for the occasional (“Forest Bathing”) sit-&-think periods; and informational placards to foster deeper community awareness for Nature, in which we all live.
