Winter Weather Reminders From Public Works

Winter Weather Reminders From Public Works

Happy December! You know what that means – Plowing Time! Here are five friendly reminders from the Sanford Public Works Department:

  • Please be courteous to drivers and afford them time and room to clear the roads.  Our trucks are 80,000 pounds and 16 feet wide.
  • Be aware there is no parking on ANY City streets during a declared  winter weather parking ban emergency. These bans use weather forecasting and require time for DPW clean-up after the storm. Parking ban notices will be posted on the City’s Facebook page (facebook.com/sanfordmaine.org), on the City’s website (sanfordmaine.org), and on the sign in front of City Hall as soon as they are declared.
  • The first storm of every year, everyone needs to get used to driving in the winter again. Please be extra cautious as there are usually a significantly higher number of accidents.
  • Be cautious about placing trash and recycling curbside during snow events. Consider placing them in your driveway, not on the roadside so the bins do not get buried or hit.
  • It is illegal to push snow onto the sidewalk and onto or across the road.

Please be safe, drive carefully, and enjoy Maine’s winter!
