Amanda Doyle resigns from SHS: Dr. Amanda Doyle, principal at Sanford High School (SHS) during the 2023-2024 school year, has resigned. Doyle accepted a position as assistant superintendent of schools in RSU 57, which includes Alfred, Limerick, Lyman, Newfield, Shapleigh and Waterboro. Prior to holding the position of principal, Doyle served as SHS assistant principal, and was assistant head for faculty and academic affairs as well as director of instruction at Thornton Academy. The Sanford School Department is actively seeking a new principal for the high school.

SHS JMG specialist has a ball at the Sea Dogs: Cheryl Gifford, Jobs for Maine Graduates (JMG) specialist at Sanford High School, was honored at the June 18 Portland Sea Dogs game for her outstanding work on the Maine Career Exploration Badge, a program designed to help students navigate potential career paths. Gifford, who joined other JMG specialists from across the state at this recognition ceremony, had the honor of throwing out the first pitch and received a personalized Sea Dogs jersey.

Scholarships offered for YMCA summer camp: The Sanford-Springvale YMCA is offering a special scholarship to its five-day summer camp program, Focused Fun @ Camp Muskatawa, for children in Grades 5 through 8. Held at Kennebunk Pond in Lyman, the camp has two scheduled sessions from which to choose: July 15 – 19 and July 22 – 26. Each camper will select an area of interest that they will focus on for the entire week. Choices include engaging with a variety of art mediums; creating amazing gadgets and vehicles using critical thinking skills; and exploring the great outdoors. Get your head in the clouds at flying camp: Great Aviation Maine ACE Camp will be held at the Sanford Municipal Airport from Aug. 14 to 17 for campers aged 12 to 16. Students will fly with Pine Tree Helicopters and Southern Maine Aviation LLC. The cost is $500. All paperwork and tuition must be submitted by Aug. 7.
