As of January 1, 2022 a new state law has gone into effect regarding the installation of fuel gas detectors. The building owner shall install, in accordance with the manufacturer’s requirements, at least one approved and listed fuel gas detector in every room containing an appliance fueled by propane, natural gas or any liquefied petroleum gas in the following:
Fuel gas detectors may be powered by any of the following methods: battery powered, plugged into an electrical outlet or hard wired.
As of January 1, 2026, business, mercantile and assembly occupancies will also be required to have fuel gas detectors. If you have any questions, please reach out to the Sanford Fire Marshal’s Office by emailing Firemarshal@sanfordmaine.org or calling 207-324-5293.
