Sanford Parks and Recreation have a full week of activities planned (snow and ice permitting!) to celebrate winter and keep the kids busy.
On Saturday, February 13, there will be a free ice fishing derby for kids 15 and younger, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at #1 Pond. Over $300 in prizes will be given away. Register from 7:30 to 9:00. Equipment and bait will be available. 3 trap limit. Parents, please support your kids. Free hot chocolate, coffee and donut holes.
Subzero will create an ice sculpture at the pond from 10:30 to 11:30. There will be a display of the Jr. Duck Stamp Art Contest entries as well.
Feeling energetic? You can ice skate on the pond, too! Or sled, board and ski at Gowen Park all day.
There will be a BBQ at the ice fishing set up area from 11:00 to 11:30. Sliders and skaters welcome.
Rather be indoors? Rock-n-Glo Bowl will be happening at Bowl-a-Rama from noon to 2:00 p.m., reservations required. $12 includes shoe rental, slice of pizza and soda. Offered all week, except Sunday.
Shain’s of Maine is offering a cone or cookie sandwich for $1, just mention “Jeff’s Recreation Special.”
On Sunday, February 14, sledding and skating continues at the park and pond.
There’s also a Snow Sculpture Contest! Build it in your yard and enter to win gift cards. Call the Rec office at 324-9130 to enter, must be completed by Tuesday, 2/16. Teams can be big or small and adults are welcome to participate.
Monday, February 15 through Friday, February 19, there’s a week long vacation camp for kids in grades K-6 at Memorial Gym. A fun and safe action-packed week is planned, which includes arts and crafts, snow sculptures, dodge ball, gym activities, bouncing, wheels and just plan fun. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The cost is $75 for the week which includes a bowling field trip. More info and register online at sanfordrec.com.
