Winter Weather Reminders From Public Works

Happy December! You know what that means – Plowing Time! Here are five friendly reminders from the Sanford Public Works Department:

  • Please be courteous to drivers and afford them time and room to clear the roads.  Our trucks are 80,000 pounds and 16 feet wide.
  • Be aware there is no parking on ANY City streets during a declared  winter weather parking ban emergency. These bans use weather forecasting and require time for DPW clean-up after the storm. Parking ban notices will be posted on the City’s Facebook page (, on the City’s website (, and on the sign in front of City Hall as soon as they are declared.
  • The first storm of every year, everyone needs to get used to driving in the winter again. Please be extra cautious as there are usually a significantly higher number of accidents.
  • Be cautious about placing trash and recycling curbside during snow events. Consider placing them in your driveway, not on the roadside so the bins do not get buried or hit.
  • It is illegal to push snow onto the sidewalk and onto or across the road.

Please be safe, drive carefully, and enjoy Maine’s winter!
