Now a cherished tradition in SPAC’s holiday lineup, Portland Ballet returns with its beloved classic, “A Victorian Nutcracker.” This enchanting performance offers a fresh retelling of the timeless story, where a young girl’s Christmas Eve dream is sparked by a mysterious nutcracker gift, leading her on a magical journey to the Sugar Plum Fairy’s Land of the Sweets.
This year watch for 2022 Sanford High School graduate Camille Alipalo as the Ribbon Candy soloist, a Flowers demi-soloist and a snowflake in the Waltz of the Snowflakes. Also, look for her as a Party Parent in the opening act. She returns to her hometown of Sanford in her seventh season with Portland Ballet and is also a junior at the University of Southern Maine.
Unique to the traditional holiday ballet set to Tchaikovsky’s iconic score, Portland Ballet’s version features the first act set in the historic Victoria Mansion, with characters drawn from Portland’s own past. Praised for its stunning set designs and costumes that capture the elegance of the Victorian era, the production also boasts vibrant staging that brings battle scenes, snowscapes and the Land of Sweets to life. Portland Ballet is renowned for its artistically trained dancers, community engagement and significant role in enriching Maine’s cultural scene.
Experience the grandeur of a big-city show right here in Sanford, without the big-city hassles. Make “A Victorian Nutcracker” a cherished holiday tradition for your friends and family!
