At its meeting on April 5, 2022, the City Council voted unanimously to hold a Special Municipal Election to fill the vacancy left by the passing of Councilor John Tuttle. The Special Election will be held on June 14, at the same time as the School Budget Referendum and the Democratic and Republican primaries.
Nomination papers for the Special Municipal Election are now available in the City Clerk’s Office. The term of office would begin June 15, 2022 and end December 31, 2022. (The regular three-year term of the seat will be on the ballot in November.)
Municipal Office candidates must be residents and registered voters of the City. Nomination for City Council requires a minimum of fifty (50) signatures of registered voters in Sanford/Springvale. The deadline to file nomination papers is Friday, April 15, 2022 at 4:30 PM.
Questions regarding the nomination process, elections, or voting in general can be answered by calling the City Clerk’s office at 324-9125 during normal business hours: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
