Beware of brushing Scams. They work like this. You receive an unexpected package from Amazon or another company with an item you didn’t order. The package will have your address but not your name. However, it will include a QR code that you’re asked to scan to find out who sent the gift.
Don’t scan it! If you do, the information from your phone will be sent to scammers who then get access to your personal and financial information through your phone. Victims’ bank accounts are often drained.
If you receive such a package, you can keep the contents or throw it away. But do not scan the QR code for any reason!
Your donation will help keep local journalism alive.
