The Week Ahead: September 21-25

Please be aware that the Washington Street bridge will be closed from September 21 to 26 for resurfacing. Traffic will be detoured down Riverside Avenue and River Street.

The Southern Maine Agency on Aging will hold a virtual class on Zoom: Beyond the Basics on Monday, September 21 at 11:00 a.m. This class is a great next step for those who are comfortable with the basics but want to learn how to set up their own account, start their own meetings, and other essentials for the Zoom “host”. The class is free but registration is required.

The Sanford School Committee will meet via Zoom on Monday at 6:00 p.m. The full agenda and instructions to access the meeting are here. It will also be streamed live here, and will be broadcast on Channel 26 as well.

There will be a Red Cross Blood Drive at the Nasson Community Center on Tuesday from 11:00 to 4:00. Power Red donors are needed. Make an appointment by calling 1-800-733-2767 or visit redcrossblood.org.

The Public Safety Subcommittee will meet Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. via Zoom. The subcommittee will hear an update on the Covid-19 situation in Sanford, as well as an update on public parks and facilities. The City Council will meet Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom. Among other business, the meeting will include two public hearings. The first will take comments on an application for a medical marijuana grower/cultivator license by 207 Hydroponics LLC, to be located at 168 Country Club Rd, Unit B. The second will solicit comments on a Public Service CDBG Grant to provide support to Waban Projects, Inc., with workforce development. Need some comfort? Interested in learning the history of tea, its variations and how best to enjoy it? The Goodall Library will host Ray Marcotte, co-owner of Dobra Tea, an Asian-style teahouse in Portland’s Old Port, Thursday at 6:00 p.m. on Facebook Live. Ray will offer a virtual slideshow and discussion, with a focus on the history and various classes of tea. More info here.

Friday is golf tournament day in Sanford! Waban’s 9th Annual Golf Tournament to support their Special Olympics athletes will be held at the Sanford Country Club. More info here. And the Chamber of Commerce’s 2nd Annual Bob L’Heureux Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at Pine Hollow Little Par 3 course. More info here.
