CJL students celebrate Lunar New Year: Pre-K and kindergarten students at Carl J. Lamb Elementary School brought their art and music lessons to life with their annual Lunar New Year parade through the school halls. Students proudly displayed their colorful handcrafted dragons and festive decorations while sharing the joy of this important cultural celebration with their school community. Many students wore red clothing, traditionally considered a lucky color during Lunar New Year festivities.

Youngest MCS students showcase their learning progress: Kindergarten students at Margaret Chase Smith Elementary School (MCS) transformed into eager teachers during their recent showcase event, demonstrating their learning through hands-on activities. Students guided their families, who were guests at the event, through various interactive stations, showing confidence in sharing their knowledge and skills. The showcase, part of Maine’s K for ME curriculum, drew an impressive turnout, with parents, grandparents, and siblings in attendance.

Pre-K students at MCS had their own opportunity to show how far they’ve come at a special Literacy Showcase. Throughout the classroom, students guided their families through various hands-on learning stations. At the letter-building station, children used mini erasers to construct letters, strengthening both their understanding of letter formation and their fine motor skills. At other stations, students identified uppercase and lowercase letters, explored rhyming words, and sorted letters by their shapes. The showcase exhibited how the children are building strong foundations in early literacy through play-based learning and hands-on exploration.
