The Sanford-Springvale YMCA Titans swimmers are having a record-breaking season! Cato Tyler (pictured below) earned his personal best time and broke the YMCA record in the 200 Breast Stroke at last month’s Oyster River Invitational meet held at UNH. The twelve year old’s time was 2.51.24, taking almost 7 seconds off of the nearly 20 year old record! Way to go Cato and the entire team of Titans swimmers! Titans swim team member ten-year-old Aleks Johnson impressed Olympic Gold Medalist, Jacob Pebley (pictured above) last weekend at the 12 and Under Jacob Pebley Swim Clinic and Meet. Aleks won the 10-12 Year Old Boys 50-yard Backstroke, beating his personal best time and breaking another Y record with a time of 33.61! The clinic & meet were held in Cape Elizabeth and attracted swimmers from around New England. Way to go guys!
The Press Herald and WGME ran a story last week about Dave King, a Sanford resident who last winter began plowing driveways for free for people who can’t afford to pay for plowing but are physically unable to shovel snow. He would like to recruit other drivers and expand the service to all of southern Maine.
