Kenneth G. Demers, 84, of Alfred passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, January 20, 2023, at Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford. He was born on December 23, 1938, to Harvey and Helen (Gerard) Demers in Biddeford and while he was very young moved to Sanford where he grew up and attended local schools.
He went to work at an early age at the local shoe shops in town. He was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 10 years. Kenneth then began his own company KGD Painting and Pressure Washing and it was then that he flourished. He was a very hard worker and enjoyed his work very much. He did so until his health prevented him from working. He did continue to tinker with certain projects when he could.
During his free time, he loved riding motorcycles, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed traveling to California and other fun places. Ken was always known to where a different type of hat every day and drink his favorite, Budweiser. Ken was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge, and member of the Lafayette Club and the Wolves Club. He was a kindhearted man who would help anyone in need. He also always had a smile for everyone and loved his children and family above all.
Ken is predeceased by his parents and his brother Paul Demers. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Gladys Demers, his four daughters Wanda Gleason and her husband Robert of PA, Kathy Phillips and her husband Rikki of Lebanon, Marylou Mitchell and her husband Thomas of Sanford and Kristie Monahan and Patrick of Sanford, 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
A time of visitation will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2023, from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale.
