Press Release
Don’t let the cooler weather slow you down. Sanford Parks and Recreation has numerous opportunities for you to keep active.
Pickleball is the fastest growing sport among adults 50+. Not that you have to be over 50! Many of our players are younger adults. This game is played heavily in the south where many seniors enjoy spending their winters, as well as by youth in gym classes across the country. Roger Huppe, an Ambassador for the USA Pickleball Association, heads up the game frenzy here in Sanford at the Memorial Gym. Please come in comfortable shoes and clothing for moving. We have all the equipment you need to play. Advanced players are playing on Mondays and Fridays from 9-noon and on Wednesdays from 8-10:45am. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-noon is for beginner and intermediate players. Roger will help with placing you in the correct group for a better play experience. We have added Wednesday and Friday evenings from 5-8pm and Sundays from 9-noon for those who might have to work during the day but still want to play the game. Cost is $4/person/session. More information here. It’s been proven that just 10 minutes of pickleball a day can increase activity in the prefrontal cortex and cerebellum parts of the brain – the aerobics part of it will spawn new brain cells.
Three FREE Learn to Play Pickleball Clinics are scheduled for Wednesday, October 26 and Friday October 28 from 5-8pm and again Sunday October 31 from 9am-noon. Parking is available in the rear of the Gym, use the rear entrance. All that is needed are gym shoes. Paddles and balls will be provided.
