Updated Community Calendar: September 28-October 2

On Monday, September 28, the Southern Maine Agency on Aging will host a free “Welcome to Zoom” virtual class at 11:00 a.m. The class will help Zoom newbies master the basics of the platform, and provide practice time and a Q&A session. Register here.

At noon on Monday, there will be a Red Cross Blood Drive at the North Parish Church. A couple of slots for Power Red donors are still available. Call 1-800-RED-CROSS to make your appointment.

The City Council’s Public Safety Subcommittee and City Administration have invited representatives from all seven of Sanford’s social clubs to meet with them on Monday at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom to discuss cooperative and proactive measures that can be taken to lessen the community spread of COVID-19 in Sanford/Springvale. It is not a public hearing, but members of the public may access the meeting live. On Tuesday, the City Council’s Municipal Operations and Property Subcommittee will meet via Zoom at 8:30 a.m. Consideration of some new equipment for the Public Works Department, and improvements to Holdsworth Park are among the items to be discussed. The City Council’s Zoning Subcommittee will meet Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. via Zoom. Among the items to be discussed are two proposed zoning changes, and signage for medical marijuana retailers. The Trafton Center is will host a flu shot clinic on Wednesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. While this is open to the public, reservations are required in order to participate. To make a reservation, please call the Trafton Center at 457-0080.

The Land Bank Authority will meet on Thursday, October 1, at 8:45 a.m. via Zoom, to discuss properties of concern. This is a work session, not a public hearing, but the public may join the meeting. The agenda with instructions to access the meeting is here.

On Thursday, Sanford’s annual Candidates Night will take place via Zoom. The event will not be live streamed, but will be recorded for viewing later, and videos will be posted on YouTube as well as the WSSR Facebook page.
