The agenda includes opening of school updates from the elementary school Principals and Special Education Director; appointment of new student representative(s); approval of moving funds into reserve accounts; naming rights for the gymnasium at Margaret Chase Smith School; and other items.
Tuesday, September 20
Site Plan Review Committee, 9:00 a.m., City Hall Council Chambers, 919 Main St., and via Zoom. The only item on the agenda is a proposal to construct five self-storage buildings and associated improvements on property owned by KOSF 1 – Maine LLC and located off Clearzone Drive.
City Council, 6:00 p.m., City Hall Council Chambers, 919 Main St., and via Zoom. The agenda includes the annual presentation from the Sanford Housing Authority and the Land Bank; a public hearing to solicit comments on a Community Enterprise CDBG Grant to improve commercial façades in the downtown; review of proposed rental fees for the Veterans Memorial Gym; and other items.
LifeFlight of Maine Community Engagement Meeting, 6:30 p.m., Sanford Airport terminal building, 199 Airport Rd., and via Zoom. LifeFlight of Maine is in the midst of a comprehensive project to improve aviation medicine. LifeFlight is working with the FAA in developing a national project joining existing flight procedures with a flight route structure enhancing safety and reliability in communities across Maine. Chamber of Commerce Open House, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., 510 Main St., Springvale. Stop by anytime throughout the day for coffee and goodies, including lunch and snacks. Make sure to sign up for the door prizes while you check out their new location. Kona Ice will be set-up in the parking lot.
Playgroup Meet ‘n Greet, 9:00 – 11:00 a.m., Nasson Community Center, 457 Main St. Bring your little ones to meet new friends. Aroma Joe’s of South Sanford will provide coffee for the grownups.

Friends of Downtown, 4:30 p.m., Central Park, 920 Main St. (location subject to change.) The mission of the Friends of Downtown is to promote economic revitalization and foster community spirit. This meeting will include discussion on several upcoming events.

The agenda includes the Clearzone Dr. self storage project (see Site Plan Review above), and two solar projects under Old Business, plus the Planning Director’s report. The meeting will be immediately followed by a work session on proposed zoning amendments.

Join Grahamtastic Connection for a fun Cornhole Competition, disk golf, auctions & raffles. Live music by the Lamplighters. Prize for winning Cornhole team! Proceeds benefit GC’s important mission to provide free technology to children with cancer and other serious illnesses, to support their education and their emotional and social well-being. Turning Over a New Leaf Fall Festival, 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Number One Pond. The Festival is being hosted by New Beginnings Christian Church and Celebrate Recovery. This is a family friendly event with crafters, vendors, food (including Burger Budz!) games, music, a car show and lots more. The Sanford Backpack Program will have a food distribution, so don’t forget your reusable shopping bag. Applications from crafters and vendors are still being accepted, contact Jon at 651-9132 if you would like to be a part of this event.
Baby Blessings, 10:00 a.m. – noon, St. George’s Episcopal Church, 3 Emerson St. The fourth Saturday of every month the church offers free, emergency assistance to parents who need help obtaining baby necessities. Diapers, wipes, and occasional other items may be available. Proof of residence or income is not required.
Goodwin House Open for Tours, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., 503 Main St. Visit this historic architectural gem in the heart of Springvale village.
Dedication of POW/MIA Monument, 11:00 a.m., Southern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 83 Stanley Rd., Springvale. The public is invited. The program will include music, prayers, a wreath laying and more. Local organizations including JROTC, the Civil Air Patrol and Cub Scouts are scheduled to participate.
