Monday, October 3

Red Cross Blood Drive, 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Nasson Community Center, 457 Main St.

School Committee, 6:00 p.m., City Hall Council Chambers, 919 Main St., and via Zoom. The agenda includes the enrollment update, 2022/23 SPAC update, report on school dental and flu clinics, update on homeless students, 2023 prom venue and more.

Tuesday, October 4

Site Plan Review Committee, 9:00 a.m., City Hall Council Chambers, 919 Main St., and via Zoom. The agenda includes a review of a proposed six-lot single family cluster subdivision on Welch Ln.

Free Lunch Distribution, noon – 1:00 p.m. (and every Tuesday), parking lot of Roger’s Supa Dolla, 81 Cottage St.

Bingo, Sanford Elks Lodge, 13 Elm St. Doors open at 4:00 p.m. and games start at 6:00 every Tuesday. Must be 18 to play.

City Council, 6:00 p.m., City Hall Council Chambers, 919 Main St., and via Zoom. The agenda includes a presentation by the Sanford Sewerage District on a proposed rate change, public hearing on a license application for an adult-use cannabis retail store at 22 Smada Dr., four Dangerous Building hearings, and several other items.

Wednesday, October 5

York County Commissioners, 4:30 p.m., York County Government Building, 149 Jordan Springs Rd., Alfred, and via Zoom. The agenda is here.

Friends of Downtown, 4:30 p.m., Central Park, 920 Main St. (location subject to change).

Free Drive-Thru Community Meal, 5:00 – 5:30 p.m. (and every Wednesday), Curtis Lake Church, 38 Westview Dr.

Sam’s Book Club, 5:30 p.m., Springvale Library, 443 Main St. The novel A Good Neighborhood by Therese Anne Fowler will be discussed.

Planning Board, 6:30 p.m., City Hall Council Chambers, 919 Main St., and via Zoom. The agenda includes the Welch Farm Subdivision (see Tuesday’s Site Plan Review meeting) and Planning Director’s report. A work session on the proposed mineral extraction ordinance and possible amendments to the urban zone will immediately follow the meeting.

Thursday, October 6

Spaghetti Dinner, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., New Beginnings Christian Church, 181 Grammar Rd. Dinner includes meatballs, bread, salad and dessert. $8 per person, kids under 6 eat free. Proceeds benefit Operation Ray of Light and their mission of veteran empowerment.

Saturday, October 8

Sanford Farmers’ Market, 8:00 a.m. – noon, Central Park, 920 Main St.

Grahamtastic Connection 2022 Virtual Run/Walk/Hike/Bike Event, through October 22. Help support their mission to bring free technology to children with cancer and other serious illnesses, by signing up for the 2022 Virtual Challenge. Prizes awarded for best individual costume, best family costumes and best dog costume. Book Sale, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Community Room at Goodall Library, 952 Main St. They will have TONS of great books and puzzles available to buy at this wonderful event, with all funds going directly into the library to help us make it the best space possible for our community. Hardcovers will be $1 each, paperbacks will be $.50, children’s books will be $.25, premium books will be $3 and puzzles will be $1. If you have any gently used or new books you’d like to donate, please drop them off to the library front desk by October 3rd.

YSCC Fall Classic Baseball Tournament, 10:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Goodall Park, 32 Roberts St. The York County Community College Hawks and the Southern Maine Community College Seawolves, led by Sanford Mainers manager Nic Lops, will be among the teams participating. Free admission!

Sunday, October 9

EAA 225/1210 Young Eagle Flight Rally, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m., Big Blue Hangar at Sanford Seacoast Regional Airport, 12 Presidential Ln. Free airplane rides for kids aged 8-17. A parent or legal guardian’s signature is required. Please note the location – it is NOT the Airport’s main terminal building.
