Storybook Trail: The Leaf Thief, Sanford-Springvale YMCA, 1 Emile Levasseur Dr. Take a walk on the paved trail located out in front of the Y, and enjoy The Leaf Thief, a sweet, funny story about autumn and adapting to change. Through November 1.

Frannie’s Furry Friends Costume Contest. Submit an entry from October 21-30 by posting a picture of your pet in costume on Instagram or Facebook, tagging Frannie’s Mini Donuts and using the hashtag #franniesfurryfriends in the post. You can post on your own page or story or in this event thread. Their staff will be picking their top three favorite costumes to win free 32 packs and a treat bag for the furry costume wearer.

Tuesday, October 25
Marc Motors’ 2nd Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest, 1744 Main St. Bring your already carved pumpkins in between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm on October 25-27. Please include your name and phone number on the back of the pumpkin. Pumpkins will be displayed in both of their showrooms, and customers and employees will vote for their favorites. At noon on the 28th, the votes will be tallied and winners announced. The child’s prize is a $50 gift card to Smitty’s; the adult prize is $250 cash.
Free Lunch Distribution, noon – 1:00 p.m. every Tuesday, parking lot of Roger’s Supa Dolla, 81 Cottage St.
Bingo, Sanford Elks Lodge, doors open at 4:00 p.m. and games start at 6:00 every Tuesday. Must be 18 to play.
City Council Roads Workshop, 6:00 p.m., City Hall Council Chambers, 919 Main St., and via Zoom. The meeting will be live streamed and recorded for later viewing. The public is invited to attend either in person, or remotely, and ask questions. Members of the public may join the meeting in the following ways:

2022 Homeless Veterans’ Mobile Stand Down, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm, Sanford Vet Center, 628 Main St. Medical checkups, connection to services, non-perishable food and winter gear will be offered. Reservations not required, but having one will speed you through the stations. Call 207-287-7019 or email hvc.mainevbs@maine.gov for more information, or to reserve a time slot.
Spooky Lego Contest, 2:30 to 4:30 pm, Goodall Library, 952 Main St. Build a spooky creation to put on display. Staff will vote on the top 3 designs and those builders will get a prize! Suggested for ages 5-12, no sign-ups necessary.

Haunted Woods, 6:00 – 8:00 pm, Gowen Park. Hosted by JMG students from Sanford Middle School. $5 admission, not recommended for young children. Last group enters at 7:40 pm. Rain date 10/28.

Friday, October 28
Halloween Story Time 10:00 am, Springvale Library, 443 Main St.. Dress up in your costume and parade around the library with Miss Sheila! Special stories and a chance to trick or treat the librarians……what do you think Miss Sheila will be this year?
Trick or Treat event, 2:00 – 4:00 pm, Goodall Library 952 Main St. Kids can come in costume and trick or treat for candy around the library, then stop in to the Community Room to paint their very own Halloween ornament. All ages are welcome!
Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass, 7:00 pm, Sanford Performing Arts Center, 100 Alumni Blvd. The internationally-acclaimed brass ensemble includes some of America’s top musicians, led by inimitable trumpet sensation, Rodney Marsalis. The program is filled with recognizable favorites from every genre, such as Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus, Broadway hits from West Side Story and others, New Orleans jazz staples like When The Saints Go Marching In, and iconic American pop songs, including Can’t Help Falling in Love. Stranger Things 21+ Halloween Party, 8:30 pm to 12:30 am, Smitty’s GameLAB. Doors open at 8:00. There will be a costume contest, 80s + hit music by DJ Ryan Deelon, two-hours of unlimited arcade fun, a spooky drink menu, $6 bowling and $5 Hyperdeck VR. Tickets are $15 per person, $25 per couple, and $10 for Stein Society members.

Author Talk: War Pigeons, 2:00 pm, Goodall Library, 952 Main St. Join author Elizabeth G. Macalaster for a presentation on her book, War Pigeons: Winged Couriers in the U.S. Military, 1878-1957. Her presentation will trace the remarkable service of homing pigeons in the U.S. Military, beginning after the Civil War and continuing through both World Wars and beyond. Light refreshments will be served.
Flight or Fright, 2:00 – 4:00 pm, Sanford Seacoast Regional Airport, 199 Airport Road. Kids in costumes walk from airplane to airplane as the pilots hand out candy. They are planning on a great event showcasing local pilots and their wide variety of aircraft and rotorcraft: everything from tail draggers to jets to helicopters, biplanes to canards to amphibious turbo props and more! This event is free to the public. Special thanks to Pilots Cove Café, Southern Maine Aviation, several local businesses and pilots for donating many pounds of candy again this year. Rain date October 30.
Trunk or Treat, 5:00 to 7:30 pm, Curtis Lake Church, 38 Westview Dr. The parking lot will be transformed into a candy lover’s dream! There will be lots of decorated trunks, hot cocoa and popcorn and… CANDY. Lots and lots of CANDY!!
Halloween Drag Night, 8:00 pm, Nasson Little Theatre, 457 Main St. Come dressed up as there will be a costume contest!
