Tuesday, October 18

Site Plan Review Committee, 9:00 a.m. via Zoom. The agenda includes an application by the Sanford School Department for a waiver of the minimum 50′ separation of curb cuts for a property on James Ave. where a home built by Sanford Regional Technical Center students will be sited.

Bingo, Sanford Elks Lodge, 13 Elm St. Doors open at 4:00 p.m., games start at 6:00. Must be 18 to play.

City Council, 6:00 p.m., City Hall Council Chambers, 919 Main St., and via Zoom. The agenda includes presentations from Strategies for a Stronger Sanford, the City’s Communications Coordinator and the Friends of Downtown; confirmation of the findings and orders from the recent Dangerous Buildings hearings; approval of a leased vehicle for the Fire Department; and other items.

Wednesday, October 19

Friends of Downtown, biweekly meeting, 4:30 p.m., Frannie’s Mini Donuts, 913 Main St.

Author Talk with Shawn Sullivan, 5:30 p.m., Springvale Library, 443 Main St. Shawn will discuss his newest book Just Doesn’t Get Better Than This! Shawn is an award-winning columnist and journalist as well as a local author. There will be books available to purchase at the discussion.

Planning Board, 6:30 p.m., City Hall Council Chambers, 919 Main St., and via Zoom. The agenda includes a request for an extension on the major subdivision and site plan approval for the Central Park Residences project on School St. and the Planning Director’s Report. There will be a work session following the meeting, to discuss the proposed mineral extraction ordinance and possible urban zone amendments.

Thursday, October 20

Slime Workshop, 6:00 p.m., Goodall Library, 952 Main St. Sign your child up now for this fun, free event where a volunteer from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard will be walking them through a hands-on workshop on the science of slime (and yes they do get to keep their slime to take home). Suggested ages 5+, sign up now by calling the library at (207) 324-4714. Only 30 spots available.

Friday, October 21

Frannie’s Furry Friends Costume Contest, through October 30, Frannie’s Mini Donuts, 913 Main St. Submit an entry from October 21-30 by posting a picture of your pet on Instagram or Facebook, tagging Frannie’s Mini Donuts and using the hashtag #franniesfurryfriends in the post. You can post on your own page or story or in this event thread. Their staff will be picking their top three favorite costumes to win free 32 packs and a treat bag for the furry costume wearer.

Saturday, October 22

Baby Blessings, 10:00 a.m. – noon, St. George’s Episcopal Church, 3 Emerson St. The fourth Saturday of every month the church offers free, emergency assistance to parents who need help obtaining baby necessities. Diapers, wipes, and occasional other items may be available. Proof of residence or income is not required.

Harvest Party, 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Mercy Chapel, 1861 Main St. Games, activities, prizes, fellowship and fun! Open to all. Rain date October 29.

Angel Babies 5K and Raffle, noon – 4:00 p.m., Springvale Social Club, 22 Bridge St. Walk starts at 10:00am. Food, Music and Raffles will take place from 12:00-4:00pm. All proceeds are donated to Angel Babies. Their mission is to provide families who have lost a baby or child support, compassion, and love. Open to all.

Sunday, October 23

St. Thomas School 50th Anniversary Mass, 10:00 a.m., Holy Family Church, 66 North Ave.

St. Thomas School 50th Anniversary Celebration, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Sanford Springvale Historical Museum, 505 Main St. Formal remarks will be at 11:45am. Enjoy light refreshments, and visit the special St. Thomas “through the years” exhibit.

Witches on Water, 3:00 – 4:00 p.m., Number One Pond. Calling all the wonderful witches of Sanford (and the wizards too) – grab your paddle boards and kayaks and meet on Number One Pond in your best witches costume for some fun easy floating. Note that this event isn’t an organized or sponsored event in any way so paddle at your own risk.
