Monday, November 2 – School Committee

The Sanford School Committee will meet via Zoom at 6:00 p.m. In addition to the usual updates and reports, it is expected that Superintendent Matt Nelson will speak about the flu shots that were given to some children in error. Tuesday, November 3 – Election Day

If you haven’t voted early, polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. For more information, see our separate story.

Tuesday, November 3 – Site Plan Review Committee

The Site Plan Review Committee will meet at 9:00 a.m. via Zoom. In addition to projects tabled from previous meetings, they will also be taking a look at an application to build a barn/workshop and operate an excavation business on Elm St. in Springvale; and an application for a utility-scale solar facility on Airport Rd. Wednesday, November 4 – Planning Board

The Planning Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom. In addition to projects tabled from previous meetings, they will also be looking at an application for a utility-scale solar facility on Airport Rd. After the formal meeting, the Board will have a work session. Discussion will include a proposed amendment to the sign ordinance for medical cannabis facilities. Thursday, November 5 – Cooking With Chocolate

A joint online presentation by the Springvale and Goodall Libraries, featuring Chef Liz Barbour. See separate story.

Thursday, November 5 – City Council

The City Council will hold a special meeting at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom. The only agenda item is the second reading of a proposed zoning change for a new gas station/convenience store to be located at the corner of Grammar Rd. and Route 4. The meeting agenda has instructions for public access.

Friday, November 6 – Mingle Jingle Virtual 5K Run & Bike Challenge

This event takes place Friday through Sunday, November 8. It is a fundraiser which allows St. Thomas School to offer financial assistance to families in need, update student technology, and provide auxiliary learning experiences. Details here.

Saturday, November 7 – Free For All: Comedian Steve Caouette

Sanford’s own stand-up comedy star returns to the Sanford Performing Arts Center at 8:00 p.m. for a free livestreamed performance following his popular New Year’s Eve show. In a normal year, Steve would be traveling around the world as one of the cruise industry’s most popular comedy headliners. Also featuring comedian Robbie Printz. Watch it here.

Sunday, November 8 – Flag Retirement Ceremony

The American Legion invites all veterans and guests to a flag retirement ceremony at 10:00 a.m. in the Post parking lot at 656 Main St. Rain or shine.

Sunday, November 8 – Harvest Thanksgiving Benefit & Food Drive

York County Shelter Programs will hold their 11th Annual Harvest Thanksgiving Benefit & Food Drive in the parking lot of the Sanford Elks Lodge on Elm St., from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The need is even greater than usual this year. See the separate story for all the details on how you can help.
