Monday, May 30

Wreath Laying Ceremonies, beginning at Central Park at 7:00 a.m. Followed by St. Ignatius Cemetery, Oakdale Cemetery, Soldiers and Sailors Park, Riverside Cemetery and Notre Dame Cemetery, concluding at Number One Pond at 9:30 a.m. If it’s raining, the final ceremony will be held at Veterans Memorial Gym instead.

Memorial Day Parade, 10:00 a.m., from Number One Pond, down William Oscar Emery Drive to the roundabout, right on Gowen Park Dr., right on Main St. to Springvale Square, ending at the Walgreen’s parking lot. There will be no parade if it’s raining.

Tuesday, May 31

Bingo, Sanford Elks Lodge, 13 Elm St. Doors open at 4:00 p.m. and games start at 6:00. Must be 18 to play.

Wednesday, June 1

Planning Board Work Session, 6:30 p.m. via Zoom. The agenda includes discussion of proposed zoning ordinance amendments regarding front yard setbacks and private ways in the Urban zone.

Thursday, June 2

Spring Sports Awards, 6:00 p.m., Sanford Performing Arts Center, 100 Alumni Blvd.

Friday, June 3

Sanford Republican Committee Golf Tournament, 1:00 p.m., Pine Hollow Little Par 3 Golf, 1486 Main St.

Pride Procession and Prayer Service, 6:45 p.m., Candlelight procession from Central Park to Gateway Park, followed by a prayer service which will include both lament and rejoicing. Please bring your own chair. If it’s raining this event will be held at St. George’s Episcopal Church.

Saturday, June 4

13th Annual Arnie’s Ride, Sanford Elks Lodge. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and the ride starts at 10:15 sharp. Registration is $25 or $50 for the Friends of Arnie, which includes one commemorative shirt. A meal will be served at the last stop (American Legion). Bike Fest 2022, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. See Sanford in a whole new way, in this self-guided ride on bike paths and on city streets closed to car traffic. The ride starts at the YMCA and proceeds through the downtown to Sanford High School and returns via the same route. The total distance is seven miles. Special attractions include Zip Zamarchi’s antique bikes for viewing and riding, a bike jam at the YMCA skate park, a bike rodeo organized by Pack 355, and food and refreshments by local restaurants and the Sanford Backpack Program. Sanford Police officers will be managing cross traffic at intersections to keep riders safe.

Pride Teen Dance Party, 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Nasson Little Theatre, For ages up to 21. Cover charge is whatever you can afford.

Pride Runway and Drag Night, 8:00 p.m. (doors open at 7:30), Nasson Little Theatre. Wear your best Pride themed looks and strut your stuff for a chance to win a prize! $15 cover charge, $10 under 21. Cash bar and light concessions.

Sunday, June 5

27th Annual Kids Fishing Derby, 9:00 a.m. to noon, Roberts Pond, Gebung Woods Rd., Alfred. Sponsored by the Springvale Fish & Game Club. For kids under age 13, must be accompanied by an adult, free hot dogs and soda. Bring poles and bait. Rain date June 13.

Civil War Veteran Headstone Dedication, 11:00 a.m., Farnham-Dorr Cemetery, on Main St. next to Convenient MD at the South Sanford roundabout. A new headstone for Civil War veteran Stephan Farnham will be dedicated. Please park at Shaw’s Supermarket or at Sanford Sound, not at Convenient MD. Hosted by Rolling Thunder Chapter 1 Maine.

Pride Picnic, noon to 3:00 p.m., Gowen Park. Pride Weekend wraps up with a picnic! This is a free, family-friendly event with music, a free lunch, drag story hour, community resources and more.
