City Council, 6:00 p.m. via Zoom. The agenda includes the establishment of a Charter Review Committee, the first reading of a proposed amendment allowing retail sales of adult-use marijuana, and discussion of a suggested design change to the city’s police cruisers, among other items. Candlelight Vigil in Support of Healthcare Workers, 7:00 p.m. at the flagpole near the main entrance to Southern Maine Health Care, 25 June St. On the second anniversary of the COVID declaration, join others in the community to show support and respect for all health care workers. Bring your own candles, flashlights, or cell phone lights.

Wednesday, March 16

York County Commissioners, 4:30 p.m., York County Government Building, 149 Jordan Springs Rd., Alfred. The agenda includes discussion of State Police coverage, authorization to pay off the Jail’s debt service, ARPA updates and more.

Organic Gardening with Vincent Cirasole, 5:30-7:30 p.m., Springvale Public Library, 443 Main St. First of three sessions, advance registration required.

Reading is Fundamental Webinar, 7:00-8:00 p.m. RIF’s Director of Programs & Content, Erin Bailey, a certified reading specialist, will demonstrate at-home literacy tips for parents of children from birth through age four. Content from the webinar and related materials will include simple activities you can use to support phonological awareness, concepts about print, and reading engagement in the early years. Saturday, March 19

Rolling Thunder Drive-Thru Dinner, 4:30-6:00 p.m., Sanford-Springvale VFW Post 9935, 1 Hutchinson St. $10 per meal, includes fried chicken, dinner roll, mashed potatoes with gravy, sweet corn, two cookies and bottled water. All monies go to help veterans and their families, and to further the POW/MIA cause.
