Red Cross Blood Drive, noon to 5:00 pm, North Parish Church, 893 Main St.
January Thaw, 5:30 to 8:00 pm, Kai Asian Fusion, 459 Main St. Come in from the cold and join Sanford-Springvale Rotarians for this fundraiser to benefit the unhoused in the Sanford-Springvale area. Bring at least one warm clothing item as a donation. Admission fee of $30 covers one free signature drink and complimentary sampling of all food choices. For tickets email RotarySS.ME@gmail.com.
School Committee, 6:00 pm, City Hall, 919 Main St. and via Zoom. The agenda includes reports on the English Language Learners and Adult Education programs, annual audit report, and first reading of an update to the policy on Graduation Credit Requirements, plus other items.
Tuesday, January 24
City Council Training Session, 5:00 pm, City Manager’s Conference Room, Suite 302, Sanford City Hall, 919 Main St. This training session for the City Council on the Freedom of Access Act and the role of the Council in Emergency Management is open to the public but is not a business meeting or public hearing.
Wednesday, January 25
How Can the SBA Help My Business?, free workshops for small business owners, at 9:00 am and at 1:00 pm, at the Sanford-Springvale Chamber of Commerce, 510 Main St. Brad Currie of the U.S. Small Business Administration will talk about the SBA’s programs and services to help entrepreneurs start, run, grow, expand, and recover, most of which are available at no cost to to the business owner. School Committee Workshop on Health Insurance and Wellness, 3:00 pm, Central Office, 3rd Floor, City Hall Annex, 919 Main St. This workshop is open to the public but is not a business meeting or public hearing.
School Committee Budget Workshop, 4:00 – 6:30 pm, City Hall Council Chambers, 919 Main St. The agenda includes review of the 2023-2024 School Budget, and in particular an overview of the Maine Department of Education’s Essential Programs and Services funding and revenue as it applies to the Sanford School Department. This workshop is open to the public but is not a business meeting or public hearing.
Thursday, January 26
Heart & Soul Announcement and Training, 4:30 pm, 917 Main St. (former Chamber of Commerce space). There will be a special announcement open to the public, followed by a Phase I workshop for the Friends of Downtown on the Heart & Soul. Community members may stay and take part.
Saturday, January 28
Chewonki Presents Owls of Maine, 10:00 am, Goodall Library, 952 Main St. Learn about the features, food and habitats of Maine’s owls, featuring some live owl friends. Suggested for ages 5 and up.
Baby Blessings, 10:00 am to noon, St. George’s Episcopal Church, 3 Emerson St. The fourth Saturday of every month the church offers free, emergency assistance to parents who need help obtaining baby necessities. Diapers, wipes, and occasional other items may be available. Proof of residence or income is not required.
Sunday, January 29
Auditions for Two Acts of Spring, 6:00 – 8:00 pm, Nasson Little Theatre, 457 Main St. Nasson Youth Theater will present two spring shows, Knock Knock and Hoodie. Please bring a headshot and resume if you have one, although they are not required. Also bring a two-minute reading, or one will be provided. In addition to actors, they are looking for stage hands, set builders, techs, etc. Target age is 9-18. For more info, email nytnasson@gmail.com. Auditions also held Monday from 6:00 to 8:00.
