Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. All schools, City offices and both libraries will be closed. Trash and recycling will be picked up as usual.

Tuesday, January 17

The Transfer station will be closed.

Site Plan Review Committee, 9:00 am, City Hall Council Chambers, 919 Main St., and via Zoom. The agenda includes an amendment to the site plan for the Cottonwood Meadow subdivision on Orioles Way; and an application to rezone the property at 26 Roberts St. from Single Family Residential to Urban.

City Council, 6:00 pm, City Hall, 919 Main St., and via Zoom. The agenda includes a presentation on the annual audit, a public hearing and vote on the proposed ordinance to prohibit certain types of vehicles from parking all night on the public way, review and vote on whether to adopt changes to the Residential Chicken Ordinance, discussion of procedure and timeline for filling the vacant Council seat, and other items.

Wednesday, January 18

Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Hiring Event, noon to 3:00 pm, Willard Building, 668 Main St. Walk-in interviews for most trades, including painters, pipefitters, machinery mechanics, ship fitters, machinists, and more. Applications for the apprentice program, with no experience necessary, will also be accepted. Bring your resume along with your US passport or a copy of your birth certificate.

Friends of Downtown, 4:30 – 6:00 pm. Location TBA (Usually Frannie’s Mini Donuts or at the former Bergeron’s Shoe Store). Email for more info.

York County Commissioners, 5:00 pm, York County Government building, 149 Jordan Springs Rd., Alfred, and via Zoom. Agenda TBA.

Planning Board, 6:30 pm, City Hall Council Chambers, 919 Main St., and via Zoom. The agenda incudes the two items from the previous day’s Site Plan Review Committee meeting, plus the Planning Director’s report.

Thursday, January 19

Board Game Night, 4:00 to 7:00 pm, Goodall Library, 952 Main St. Games for all ages available, ranging from Exploding Kittens and Uno to Clue, Monopoly, and even chess. You can bring your own games as well, and play with your group or others. Free snacks!

Safety Information Night for Parents, 6:00 pm, Sanford Performing Arts Center, 100 Alumni Blvd. The evening will be an opportunity to learn more about the ALICE model and safety in the Sanford schools. ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate, and is a federally-endorsed approach to responding to active shooters and other emergency situations. Saturday, January 21

Corner Cupboard, 10:00 am to noon, Sanford Unitarian Universalist Church, 5 Lebanon St. Non-food essential item pantry offering personal care products, paper goods, cleaning supplies, household items and baby needs. All are welcome.
