Monday, December 5

School Committee, 6:00 pm, City Hall Council Chambers, 919 Main St., and via Zoom. The agenda includes a report from Athletic Director Zach Lemelin on fall and winter programs; an update on the Maine Department of Education’s visit to the Sanford Pre-K program; recognition of the Boys Soccer team and the SHS Marching Band; and other items.

Tuesday, December 6

Site Plan Review Committee, 9:00 a.m., City Hall Council Chambers, 919 Main St., and via Zoom. New business on the agenda includes a proposal to develop a 14-lot subdivision and private way off Sam Allen Rd. and a proposal to redevelop the former Nasson College dormitories into an 83-unit apartment complex.

Free Lunch Distribution, noon – 1:00 p.m. (and every Tuesday), Sunset Tower, 941 Main St.

Red Cross Blood Drive, noon – 5:00 pm, Nasson Community Center, 457 Main St.

Bingo, Sanford Elks Lodge, 13 Elm St. Doors open at 4:00 p.m. and games start at 6:00 every Tuesday. Must be 18 to play.

City Council, 6:00 p.m., City Hall Council Chambers, 919 Main St., and via Zoom. The agenda includes approval of amendments to update the list of City parks in the Sanford Drug Free Zone, Smoking and Tobacco Use and Parks ordinances; approval of a proposed ordinance requiring Knox boxes on multi-unit residential buildings; discussion of a proposed ordinance that would prohibit certain types of vehicles from parking all night on any public way; and other items.

Wednesday, December 7

Sam’s Book Club, 5:30 pm, Springvale Library, 443 Main St. The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah will be discussed. All are welcome.

Senior Food Mobile, 10:00 – 11:30 am, Crossroads United Methodist Church, 15 Grammar Rd. For anyone over 60 years old in need of food assistance: produce for all, commodities for those who meet income eligibility requirements.

York County Commissioners, 4:00 pm, 149 Jordan Springs Rd., Alfred, and via Zoom. The agenda includes discussion of adding domestic partner benefits to the County health plan, discussion of purchasing new office furniture for the District Attorney’s office, and other items.

Christmas Party, 5:00 – 7:00 pm, Sanford Springvale Historical Museum, 505 Main St. Come celebrate the season with a performance by members of the SHS Chorus, directed by Jane Kirton, and all kinds of refreshments. Free and open to the public.

Friday, December 9

NYT Presents The Wizard of Oz, 7:00 pm, Nasson Little Theatre, 457 Main St. This beloved tale, in which a Kansas farm girl travels over the rainbow to discover the magical power of home, has entertained audiences for generations. Tickets may be purchased at the door or online here.

Saturday, December 10

Troop 327 Holiday Shopping Bazaar, 9:00 am – 2:00 pm, Veterans Memorial Gym, 678 Main St. 50 local crafters and artisans for all your holiday shopping needs. Bake sale too!

Craft and Vendor Fair, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, Crossroads United Methodist Church, 15 Grammar Rd.

Goodwin House Open For Tours, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm (and every Saturday in December), 503 Main St. This historic home is decorated for the season and features toys galore from the  Historical Society’s collection. Children welcome. Admission is free but donations are gratefully accepted. The Historical  Museum next door is also open through the winter, Fridays from 10 to 4 and Saturdays from 10 to 1.

Photos with Santa & Gift Wrapping Fundraiser, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm, Goodall Library, 952 Main St. Bring your kiddos to meet Santa, and your own phone or camera to take their photo with him for FREE! (If you do not have an adequate phone or camera to take photos, a library staff member will be happy to take one for you and email or text it to you instead.) First 50 kids get a free craft bag, adults can enter a raffle for some great prizes including a gas gift card, and snacks will be provided as well. Help your local library (and ease your holiday stress) by bringing any gifts you need wrapped as well! Volunteers can use paper you bring or our own supplies to wrap your holiday gifts for you for a donation to the library. Suggested donations will vary based on the size and number of gifts you need wrapped.

Christmas Market and Yard Sale, 11 am to 3 pm, Ferment Farm, 406 Hanson Ridge Rd., Springvale. Buy from local artisans. Crafts, dried flowers, Christmas cookies and warm drinks, artwork, Maine wreaths, unique gently used items and more for sale. Rescheduled from December 3.

Christmas with Renaissance Voices, 7:30 pm, Sanford-Springvale Historical Museum, 505 Main St. This 21 voice a cappella  ensemble, under the direction of Harold Stover, will sing music from the 16th and 17th centuries along with some modern selections and readings appropriate to the season. Tickets $20 per adult, under 18 admitted free. Tickets are available at the door or email heastman@metrocast.net to reserve. The Museum is handicapped accessible.

Sunday, December 11

GIANT Christmas Party, 10:00 am, Curtis Lake Church, 38 Westview Dr. Join Curtis Lake Church for a GIANT Christmas Show followed by an after party at the NORTH POLE! They will have fun games, Christmas music, a bounce house, photos with Santa and SNOW! Free and open to the public.

A Winter Afternoon on Shaker Hill with the Tri City Community Chorus, 1:30 pm, Notre Dame Chapel, 132 Shaker Hill Rd., Alfred. In celebration of Rose Sunday (Gaudete Sunday), a day set apart for the anticipation and celebration of the approaching feast of Christmas, the chorus will perform traditional Christmas music. Directed by Dr. Christian Giddings, The Tri City Community Chorus is an ensemble of dedicated singers from all walks of life. The chapel is handicap-accessible, and parking is ample and free. Admission is your free will donation, and all contributions will be given to York County Shelter Programs.
