Patriot’s Day, All City offices and both libraries are closed. Post offices are open. Trash and recycling will be picked up as usual.

Tuesday, April 19

Transfer station closed.

Bingo, Sanford Elks Lodge, 13 Elm St. Doors open at 4:00 p.m., games start at 6:00. Must be 18 to play.

City Council, 6:00 p.m. via Zoom. The agenda includes the second reading of proposed changes to the zoning ordinance to allow for retail sales of adult-use marijuana, quarterly report from the Growth Council, review and approval of a new Rail Trail policy, a new TIF district for the Central Park Residences apartment complex, discussion of City Council meeting policy pursuant to Covid-19 transmission levels, and other items.

Wednesday, April 20

Ceremony to Honor Springvale Firefighter Corydon Goodwin, 11:00 a.m., Springvale Fire Station, 5 Oak St. A plaque will be unveiled and a representative of the Maine Forest Service will discuss changes in wildland firefighting since the 1950s. Public welcome.

Community Café Senior Luncheon, noon, Shain’s of Maine Restaurant, 1491 Main St. Catered meal, suggested donation $8, reservations required. Call (207) 324-5181 or (207) 415-6067 to reserve your meal.

Quilts From Kuwait to Kenya and Around the World, 5:30-6:30 p.m., Springvale Library, 443 Main St. With award-winning quilter Paramajeet Bawa.

The Southern Maine Garden Club meets at the Springvale Library at 1:00 p.m.

Friday, April 22

The Painter In The Port, 7:00 p.m., Nasson Little Theatre, 457 Main St. A thrilling psychodrama written by Michael Dalleo and produced by FloreyMare Productions. Tickets $10, available here or at the door.

Saturday, April 23

Bean Supper, 4:30-6:00 p.m., First Baptist Church of Sanford, 905 Main St. Adults $10, kids 10 and under $5. Includes beans, hotdogs, cole slaw, American chop suey, rolls and homemade dessert. Eat in or take out.

Southern Rail bluegrass concert, 7:30 p.m., Sanford Springvale Historical Museum, 505 Main St. Southern Rail’s performances are high-energy exuberant fun, with riveting harmonies, irrepressible humor and sparkling banjo, mandolin, and guitar solo work.  Their recordings graced the Top Thirty Singles Chart of Bluegrass Unlimited for a combined total of 32 months.  One of their earlier CD’s, a special Bluegrass Gospel compilation entitled Glory Train, was nominated for Best Gospel Recording of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association.  Tickets $15, masks optional.
