Carpentier Park on High Street has moved one step closer to renovation after the City Council gave its final approval at a recent meeting.
Plans call for a variety of new amenities and attractions for the children of Sanford. The most prominent will be a splash pad, a circular concrete surface equipped with small water jets and misters that will spray and offer a fun and refreshing experience during the summer months.
In addition to the splash pad, the upcoming renovations will include new construction or renovation projects aimed to accommodate patrons of the park, such as reconfigured seating, parking and added handicapped accessible ramps. New atmospheric and utility features were also discussed at the council meeting, such as new paved paths, benches, picnic tables, a small wall, and a renovation to the T-ball field.
The total cost of the project is about $280,000, which is about $12,000 over the allocated budget. Despite the price, the council has approved the design and has a keen interest in the project. A Land and Water Conservation Fund grant has helped fund the project.
