The second art walk of the season plans to set up at Central Park to test out the venue as an alternative to the sidewalk along Main Street. The event runs from 4 pm to sunset on Friday, June 14.
Art walk organizer Evelyn Nitzberg said Central Park offers a more relaxed atmosphere than Main Street, and the visual effect of clusters of people might draw in more passersby. “People might be more intrigued,” she said. The 18 artists who exhibited in May were all willing to try out the new space, she said.
In addition to artists, Nitzberg is inviting hula hoopers, jugglers, dancers, musicians, face-painters, mimes, bubble blowers, and tightrope walkers. Event tents are welcome, but they should be secured with sandbags or gallon water jugs, not spikes.
The art walk is the creation of the Sanford Arts Commission, which is also promoting visual arts through rotating exhibits at Sanford Performing Arts Center, Nasson Little Theater, Sanford Regional Economic Growth Council, Downhill Bagel, Sanford Water District, Eldredge Lumber and Goodall Library.
The art exhibit at the library’s temporary space at The Center for Shopping is set for 2 to 6 pm on Tuesday, June 4.
