Our readers often see us express gratitude to the sponsors and donors who make it possible for us to bring local news to Sanford and Springvale. Today, as we transition from copy printing to newsprint, we want to extend a special thank you to one person whose support has been instrumental in this journey—Kat Wiggin, owner of Copy Kats.

When we set out last year to expand our online and email presence while reintroducing a print edition, we turned to Kat. Having previously provided printing services for our SSN founder, Zendelle Bouchard, she stepped up in a big way—offering us generous rates that made producing a print edition financially feasible.

But Kat’s contribution went beyond affordability. She has been a reliable, collaborative, and dedicated partner, ensuring that every edition was printed on time, every Friday, without fail. Her unwavering support and commitment helped us reach this milestone, and for that, we are deeply grateful.

Kat’s journey to becoming a successful business owner started at the Sanford Regional Technical Center’s Digital Design Program, which she credits as the spark for her passion. After graduating in 2009, she honed her skills at a small copy center in Kennebunk, where she spent four years mastering printing, design, and customer service. By 2018, she was ready to take the leap into business ownership.

That year was a whirlwind—she got married, went on her honeymoon, and opened Copy Kats the day after she returned. Reflecting on that time, she says with a smile, “Life has a way of working out.” And work out it has.

Kat loves helping small businesses bring their brands to life. From business cards and banners to t-shirts, mugs, yard signs, and wedding invitations, she’s a one-woman powerhouse, putting out an impressive volume of work with skill and dedication.

Last year, Kat took on another important role—motherhood—when she and her husband welcomed their daughter, Emma. Like many working parents, balancing a newborn with running a business wasn’t easy, but Kat found a way. She returned to work quickly, with Emma nestled in a carrier on her chest as she worked.

Her mother, Bonnie Shelley, has been a huge support, helping in the shop and with Emma, ensuring that Copy Kats continues to thrive. Now, as Emma recently celebrated her first birthday, she’s often strapped onto Kat’s back—though she’s started walking and occasionally “helps” by taking papers off the copier and putting them into boxes.

Kat laughed, recalling Emma’s first Christmas: “She’s so used to handling paper that she was a pro at unwrapping gifts and ripping the paper.”

As we move forward with newsprint, we remain immensely grateful for the role Copy Kats has played in our growth. Kat’s story—her passion, perseverance, and dedication to her craft—deserves recognition. She has been more than a printing service; she has been a partner, a problem solver, and a pillar of support.

So today, we say: Thank you, Kat, for being part of our story.
