SRTC campers explored new interests, made new friends: Summer Camp 2024 at the Sanford Regional Technical Center welcomed middle school campers from Kennebunk, Kittery, Marshwood, Massabesic, Noble, Sanford, Wells and York the last week of June to learn about the center’s Career and Technical Education programs. Campers chose from seven different options: plumbing, carpentry, aviation, digital design, early childhood education, law enforcement and firefighting. Throughout the week, campers engaged in practical activities and learned valuable skills related to their chosen programs. The hands-on approach allowed students to gain insight into these professions and sparked curiosity about potential future careers. One of the camp highlights was the chance for students to make new friends from different schools in the area, fostering connections and building a sense of community among young learners interested in similar fields.
It’s a small world after all: Foreign Links Around the Globe (FLAG), a non-profit international exchange organization based in the United States, is seeking people in the Sanford-Springvale area to host foreign exchange students. Each host family experiences the foreign student’s culture and creates memories while giving the student the opportunity to experience American life and learn about the host’s traditions and values. Each year, the organization hosts over 500 students from more than 25 countries who want to live and learn in the United States. FMI on this opportunity, call Craig Bellgraph at 207-329-5992 or email at cbellgraph@flag-intl.org.
Sports physical clinic scheduled at SHS: Sanford High School and Sanford Middle School will be hosting a sports physical clinic on Aug. 5, from 3 pm to 5 pm, in the School Nurse’s Office (D105) at the high school. The clinic is available for Sanford students entering grades 6 through 12. The cost is $20. Checks can be made payable to York Hospital. All registrations should be completed by Aug. 4. FMI, go here.
Old flagpole, new location: A special shout-out to Matt Landry and Jason Tremblay for installing the new flagpole at the Gil Dionne softball field on Alumni Boulevard. This pole once stood at Alumni Stadium, where a 60-foot pole now flies a 10-foot by 15-foot flag.
